Whew.....It has been a whirlwind!

The end of the year is so hectic for teachers! We are finally finished with all the Independent Study presentations. We have had such diverse topics, and everyone (including me) has learned a great deal! Some of our topics have included astronauts, D-Day, Greek Olympics, hedgehogs, Hawaii, steam trains, and so much more. Even though this project can be stressful, it is proof that high ability children need learning opportunities where they can explore topics of interest, be creative, and share their findings. I am continually amazed by the work that my students this year produce!

I sent home a last chance book order yesterday. Please send in your order as soon as possible! I told the kids I would like the orders by tomorrow, but Thursday is probably fine too. I want to make sure we have enough business days for delivery before the last day of school next week! Reading during the summer is vital to maintaining Lexiles! I hope several of you take advantage of the great deals that Scholastic has to offer.

Friday is Track and Field Day! Please be sure to put sunscreen on! We will wear our blue tie dye shirts from the beginning of the year, if they still fit! We will be outside most of the day. I don't mind if students bring sunglasses or water bottles, but they must be totally responsible for their own stuff.

There will be more "end of the year" info coming soon, so stay tuned! I am really starting to feel sad about my third graders who are moving on! However, I am also excited about the new students who are coming our way. I already know for sure that we have a great class size next year. I believe we will have nineteen kids in our class, which is a great number!
