Everyday Math
As you know students have two workbooks for math. One workbook is the Student Math Journal. My purple group also has a Study Links workbook, while the orange group has a Home Links workbook. These workbooks came with our new math series. Not all assignments in these workbooks are for a grade. Instead of typical worksheets, we are able to use the workbooks as we learn new concepts for practice and review. Don't be alarmed if there are finished assignments in the workbooks that do not have a grade, or are not torn out! Often times we go over part of the assignment together to check for understanding.
The purple group is working on different strategies for multi-digit addition and subtraction.
The orange group is working on problem solving, number patterns, and ways to use numbers.
Reading
We continue to read Oliver's Travels: An Indiana Adventure as we explore Geography concepts and Indiana history in Social Studies. A great deal of the 2/3 curriculum is integrated, meaning that we combine subject areas! Students have been completing assignments in a red folder that I created for the novel.
Students are also still working on their Top 40 goals. Thank you to Mrs. Newberry for coming in one afternoon to help me with booktalks. I still need volunteers from 3:00-3:30 on Tuesdays or Thursdays to help with booktalks. Let me know if you are interested.
Social Studies
In the next few weeks, we will be working on a project to wrap up our Geography unit. Students will work in groups to create salt dough islands. This project tends to be a student favorite, and one that they will remember for a long time!
We also will be preparing for a Geography test. Soon I will be posting a review game on Moodle for students to study for the test. If your child does not have Internet access in the evenings, please let me know!
Important Reminders!!!
- Tomorrow is the mile run in P.E.

- Yankee Candle orders are due Oct. 11
- The end of the grading period is approaching. Please be patient as I catch up on grading assignments. Report cards will be available online on October 20!
Wish Lists
Everyone is probably aware that budgets have been cut drastically from the school corporation, and the cuts will only continue. One of our classroom parents was concerned that the library has absolutely no budget this year and suggested that Mrs. Holstein make a wish list for the library. Mrs. Holstein thought it was a great idea. The parent also suggested that teachers make wish lists too, in case anyone wants to donate needed items to the classroom. I will work on a wish list for our classroom.
I have some unique volunteer needs in the next several days with our Island Projects. I will post more information tomorrow.
Have a great night!
